Charles Selva-Rivero
Charles Selva-Rivero is a bioethicist specializing in artificial intelligence ethics, research ethics, and socially responsible innovation. He holds a Master’s degree in Bioethics from the Université de Montréal and a multidisciplinary bachelor’s degree combining public health, ethics and law, and philosophical and biochemical studies.
His work focuses on governance, normative frameworks, and the ethical oversight of emerging technologies. He has contributed to research ethics, data governance, and methodological development through roles at the Institut national d’excellence en santé et en services sociaux (INESSS), the Bureau de la conduite responsable en recherche (BCRR), and various university teaching activities.
Charles also serves as Strategic Development and Partnerships Lead at Idoine, a social innovation startup, and has entrepreneurial experience in ethical algorithm design. His trajectory is informed by an interest in the governance of norms, power structures, and the societal implications of emerging technologies, drawing on contemporary thinkers in ethics, political philosophy, and science-technology studies.
He has participated in several international initiatives, including representing stakeholder and lobbying perspectives at Emory University’s Simuvaction on AI, Climate Resilience and Health Disparities in Atlanta, and engaging with global governance discussions through Model United Nations. He also has field experience in South Korea related to project development, technological governance, architecture, Smart Cities and intercultural engagement.
